“Our players are fired up and ready to go. We've got a great staff that's ready to roll throughout the playoff run."” - Keith Carter, Ole Miss Athletic Director, forgetting that his team’s play caller is no longer on payroll.
🎙 Leading Off
Miami is this year’s odd man out. Do we really think we’ll ever get to a Fair and Just college football format that identifies a One True Champion? It’s been a hundred years of this, and at this point, we’re arguing over the 10th or 11th best team. Gone are the days of a third team missing their crack at the title. Instead, we can bicker whether Miami or Notre Dame should be the 10 seed.
Miami and Notre Dame (both Irritants) have matching 10-2 records. As of today, Notre Dame edged the Canes for the 10 seed in the latest College Football Playoff rankings. Who’s mad? Almost no one actually, but an aide to Marco Rubio told him to get upset. Why? Because one of Notre Dame’s losses is to….Miami. That’s right. Beating the Irish (in week 3) isn’t/wasn’t enough to convince the Committee that the Rubio’s hometown squad should get a crack at the postseason.

You wanna check in on Pro Golf? Nice. Me too. New PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp starts his term in January 2026. He’s promised change, but I’m very, very happy to report that almost nothing has been announced. Doesn’t mean we don’t have whispers! Leaking ideas to reporters and monitoring the public response is a foolproof way to cause consternation, disappoint, and alienate traditionalists. All my TradBoys look away. Let’s see what’s cooking:
- Shrinking the schedule.
Surprise! Less is more. In an impossible to ignore nod to LIV, the PGA is considering reducing the number of scheduled events. On the chopping block, my beloved West Coast Swing. These events are more likely to be repositioned than entirely cancelled, but they’ve been put on a PIP. You want consternation! I love the West Coast Swing! There’s is nothing better than sitting in a small, NYC apartment during February and watching the gang tackle Pebble Beach, the Waste Management, and Riviera. That’s livin baby. That’s Sunday. Each of those are far too important for the Tour to ignore, but the Amex (Palm Springs) and at least one of the Hawaiian tournaments should be shaking in their boots.
- More money for top players.
In another nod to LIV, expect purse sizes and whatever other compensation the Tour cooks up to grow in the future. I’m not here to argue against this, but be assured that if money flows to the top, it will surely come from the pockets of the bottom 50 players. Tiger dropped the “lucrative” word this week and if that incentivizes him to glue his spine together and play, then great. Don’t count on it, but do count on smaller fields (think top 70).
- Where the LIV Boys at?
They livin. They breathin. They squeezin LIV for one last check. In all seriousness, contracts are coming up for key players (Bryson, Brooks, Cam Smith, etc…) and the mammoth question of the golf world is how much LIV is willing to keep pouring into guaranteed contracts for players and tournaments that are delivering barely any revenue. Is Saudi Arabia ready to pony up another few billion (they have it) for an investment that’s achieved virtually nothing it’s promised. And in a world where they don’t, how does the PGA receive top talents back into their ranks? LIV players are not card carrying Tour members. Does that mean Bryson needs to hop around the Korn Ferry? Probably not, but wouldn’t that make great Youtube content.
We have time. Impossibly, the game of golf is in a relatively great place considering its top talent is split across two leagues. 2026 will likely look much like 2025, but everything after that, well, just keeping check X for radical new ideas.
